Opportunities to Get Involved
Help make your community a better place through YMCA Youth & Government. By giving your time or a financial contribution, you join 1000’s of volunteers and program alumni who have benefited from their experience participating in the Washington’s premier civics education program.
Current Volunteer Opportunities:
Volunteer Leadership – Serve on the Board of Directors or a committee
YMCA Youth & Government programs are overseen by a statewide board of directors. The Board meets quarterly to set policy, determine direction, and ensure program accountability and success.
Individuals may also volunteer to support a committee of the Board to assist with volunteer recruitment, volunteer recognition and fundraising.
For more information about the role of the Youth & Government Board of Directors click on the “Board of Directors” link to the left or contact the Youth & Government office.
Fundraising – Join the annual campaign team
Each year the YMCA Youth & Government Board of Directors, along with volunteer campaigners, raise money to subsidize the cost of Youth & Government programs. This allows program fees to remain low and ensure all students, regardless of their ability to pay, have access to the Youth Legislature and Mock Trial programs. The Youth & Government Annual Campaign begins each September and runs through the beginning of December. For more information on volunteering or to support Youth Legislature and Mock Trial contact YMCA Youth & Government for more information.

Attorney Raters – Rate student performance during the State Mock Trial Competition
22nd Washington YMCA High School
Mock Trial State Championship
March 27-29, 2009
Each year the YMCA High School Mock Trial State Competition brings out some of the most talented, articulate, and enthusiastic young people from around our state. The competition takes place over the course of 3 days and is held at the Thurston County Courthouse in Olympia. Real judges preside over trials and attorneys rate students on their performances and courtroom etiquette.
Volunteer attorneys sit in the jury box during 1-4 rounds of competition on the Saturday and Sunday of the State Championship. Each attorney scores the teams on their courtroom presentation, knowledge of the case, and ability to think on their feet. Each round is two hours long and is preceded by a brief orientation session for volunteers.
