MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of YMCA Youth & Government is to teach democratic values and skills to youth through hands-on experiences.

VALUES AND PRINCIPLES

• Foster the development of citizens responsibility
• Develop social competence, problem-solving ability, and communication skills
• Inspire young people to be responsible and act with integrity
• Encourage self reliance and a sense of purpose in youth
• Provide training and experience in democracy by active participation in the three branches of government; Legislative, Judicial and Executive
• Stimulate careful deliberation of social issues and their possible resolutions
• Create opportunities to hear and respect varying viewpoints
• Apply ethical values in making public policy
• Infuse the YMCA core values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility in every aspect of what we do
