MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of YMCA Youth & Government is to teach democratic values and skills to youth through hands-on experiences.
VALUES AND PRINCIPLES
- Foster the development of citizens responsibility
- Develop social competence, problem-solving ability, and communication skills
- Inspire young people to be responsible and act with integrity
- Encourage self reliance and a sense of purpose in youth
- Provide training and experience in democracy by active participation in the three branches of government; Legislative, Judicial and Executive
- Stimulate careful deliberation of social issues and their possible resolutions
- Create opportunities to hear and respect varying viewpoints
- Apply ethical values in making public policy
- Infuse the YMCA core values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility in every aspect of what we do
